Music plays an important role in John's life. His first instrument was the trumpet, but he also plays trombone, piano, guitar, bass guitar, and most recently, ukulele. As a high school student, he was active in band and jazz band. He auditioned and was accepted to Young Americans and performed at a dinner theater in Michigan for one summer. As an adult, he enjoys playing at church in the praise band, at lunch break with his co-workers, and just for fun with his friends.

After finding out recently that Mac Powell, lead singer for the band Third Day, played trumpet in his high school band, John commented to his wife, "Once again proving that band geeks really are the best catch."

There are many subjects that interest John, but at the top of the list are snow skiing and motor sports. Cars and Motorcycles are always a good topic for discussion with John, that is, if you would rather not talk about politics. John is well read, so be sure of your facts before you venture into a verbal sparring match with him!

Politics is John's choice discussion topic. Interestingly, John as a young man was quite a liberal. His wife, who has always been conservative, was always proud of voting for Ronald Reagan as president. John, on the other hand, voted for Independent candidates during the late seventies and early eighties. Due to the Providence of God, John finally came around in his thinking, and is now a "Dyed in the Wool" conservative Republican. He credits Rush Limbaugh with shedding light on the truth as part of his conversion process.

John continues his growth as a Christian by studying the Bible and reading books in theology, Christian worldview, Creation science, and values and ethics. His essays reflect his study, thoughts, and passions, and are a testament to his commitment to open discussion and the truth.
